Ayush registration represents Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy, which are traditional systems of medicine and treatment deeply rooted in India’s history. Despite their widespread use for decades, these practices were largely unregulated until 2014. That year marked the establishment of a dedicated AYUSH Ministry at both the Central and State government levels. This initiative provided a comprehensive regulatory framework for the manufacturing, sale, marketing, and export of AYUSH products domestically and internationally.

A key component of this framework is the AYUSH license, which ensures that only licensed AYUSH businesses are permitted to operate in India. These licenses are issued by the AYUSH Ministry of the respective state government where the business is based. Obtaining an AYUSH license is mandatory for all businesses involved in the production or sale of Ayurvedic, Unani, Siddha, herbal, and homeopathy drugs, cosmetics, or treatments. The process for applying for this license is governed by the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.

AYUSH Manufacturing license

The applicant business must own a manufacturing facility, on industrial land.

The area of the land must be 1200 square feet for the manufacture of a single product. If more than one product is to be manufactured, the land area will increase accordingly.

The manufacturing unit must be GMP Certified.

The applicant business must have at least 2 Ayurvedic experts and must own at least 2 Ayurvedic pharmacists.

All machinery and equipment required for production and packaging have been installed in the manufacturing facility.

AYUSH Retail & Wholesale License

A retailer or wholesaler of Ayush products is not required to apply for AYUSH Retail or wholesale license. As provided in Section 33A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 (The Act), Chapter IV A of the Act, which regulates the manufacture, sale, and distribution of drugs and cosmetics does not apply to Ayush products. Further, Chapter Chapter IV-A of the Act regulates only the manufacturing of Ayush products.

AYUSH Loan License

The business that is loaning its manufacturing unit must be an AYUSH manufacturing license holder.

This manufacturing unit that is being loaned must be situated on industrial land.

The manufacturer being loaned must have separate rooms for the storage of raw materials, storage of finished products, and an office to carry out the usual business activities.

There is no requirement for the loan license holder to have pharmacies or Ayurvedic Experts.

The loan license is subject to regular renewal.
