ISI Mark / Certification: The ISI Mark guarantees that products meet quality standards, preventing the sale of sub-standard items. It is mandatory for 644 product categories listed on the BIS website to obtain ISI certification to sell in the Indian market.
Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS): This scheme requires foreign manufacturers to certify their products according to Indian quality standards, thereby preventing the distribution of sub-standard imported goods.
Hallmark Certification: Hallmarking certifies the purity of precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum jewelry and artifacts, protecting consumers from adulteration. Since April 1, 2023, jewellers must sell gold jewelry with a Hallmark Unique Identification Number (HUID) on all 14, 18, and 22-carat gold items.
Management System Certification: BIS offers certification schemes under the Indian Parliament’s Act for various management systems, including Quality Management, Food Safety, and Environmental Management Systems, to ensure adherence to best practices.
ECO Mark Certification: Established by the Government of India, the ECO Mark certifies products that are environmentally sustainable. It covers categories such as soaps, detergents, food items, paints, packaging materials, and coir products.
Laboratory Recognition Scheme: To safeguard consumer interests, BIS recognizes laboratories by issuing licenses and registrations after verifying their compliance with rigorous testing and certification standards.
Recognition of Assaying and Hallmarking Centres (AHC): BIS acknowledges and certifies entities involved in assaying and hallmarking processes, ensuring the integrity and authenticity of precious metal products.
