Types of FSSAI BASIC Registration

FSSAI State License: This license is applicable for medium-sized food businesses with a turnover exceeding Rs. 12 lakh but less than Rs. 20 crore. It is most appropriate for medium-scale food manufacturers and producers.

FSSAI Central License: Designed for large food businesses with an annual turnover of over Rs. 20 crore, this license is required for major food enterprises operating on a larger scale.

Documents Required for FSSAI Basic Registration

Form A: This is the standard application form for FSSAI registration, which requires detailed information about your food business, including the business name, address, and the types of food products you manufacture or sell.

Passport-sized Photograph: You need to upload a recent passport-sized photograph of the proprietor or authorized signatory on the application website.

Proof of Identity: This essential document verifies the identity of the business owner and is used in most registration processes. Acceptable documents include government-issued IDs such as a driver’s license, voter ID, PAN card, or Aadhaar card.

Address Proof: When applying for a Basic FSSAI license, you must provide proof of the establishment’s address. Acceptable documents include utility bills (phone, water, electricity) or property tax receipts that confirm the business’s location.

List of Food Items: You are required to submit a list of the food products your business manufactures or distributes, as FSSAI authorities will review these for quality assurance.

Process for FSSAI Basic Registration Online

Step 1: Visit the FSSAI Website: Access the official FSSAI Food Licensing & Registration System (FLRS) portal. This platform allows food businesses to apply for new registrations, track application status, and renew existing licenses.

Step 2: Sign Up and Create an Account: Register on the portal using your name, email ID, and mobile number. A verification code will be sent to your registered email and mobile; enter this code to verify your account and proceed.

Step 3: Fill Out the FSSAI Basic Registration Form: Complete Form A with accurate details about your business, including:

  • Business name and address
  • Types of food products handled
  • Number of employees
  • Annual turnover

Step 4: Upload Required Documents: Attach essential documents such as:

  • Identity proof (e.g., Aadhaar, PAN)
  • Address proof of the establishment
  • Business registration proof
  • Food safety management plan (if applicable)

Step 5: Pay the FSSAI Basic Registration Fees: Pay the applicable registration fee online. The fee varies depending on your business type and location. Ensure payment confirmation is received to move forward.

Step 6: Submit the Application: Review all entered details carefully. Submit the application; avoid errors or missing documents to prevent rejection or processing delays.

Step 7: Inspection by Authorities: FSSAI officials may conduct a site inspection to verify compliance with food safety standards, including hygiene, storage, and handling practices.

Step 8: Approval and Issuance of Registration Certificate: Once the inspection is successful and all requirements are satisfied, FSSAI issues the Basic Registration Certificate. This certificate features a unique 14-digit registration number, which must be displayed on your packaging and business premises.
