The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) launched the new Income Tax e-Filing 2.0 portal on 7th June 2021, replacing the earlier system. This upgraded portal was introduced to provide a more seamless, intuitive, and user-friendly experience for taxpayers filing income tax returns (ITR) and managing various tax-related services online.

Features of the Income Tax e-Filing Portal 2.0 Explained

1. Faster ITR Processing
The upgraded portal enables quicker processing of income tax returns (ITRs), helping taxpayers receive refunds faster than before.

2. Free ITR Preparation Tools
The Income Tax Department provides free Excel and Java-based utilities for ITR preparation. These tools are updated every financial year and help taxpayers accurately prepare and file returns with ease through guided questionnaires.

3. Dedicated Call Centre Support
A new integrated call centre system provides quick resolution of taxpayer queries. In addition, FAQs, tutorials, videos, and chatbot support are available for assistance.

4. Single Dashboard View
Taxpayers can manage all activities in one place, including filings, uploads, communications, and pending actions through a unified dashboard.

5. Multiple Tax Payment Options
The portal supports convenient payment methods such as UPI, net banking, credit cards, and RTGS/NEFT, making tax payments simple and flexible.

6. Pre-Filled Income Tax Returns
The system auto-fills key financial details such as salary income, interest, dividends, capital gains, and business income. This is based on data shared by employers, banks, and other institutions, reducing errors and saving time.

7. Annual Information Statement (AIS)
The Annual Information Statement provides a detailed summary of a taxpayer’s financial transactions, including TDS, SFT, and other income details. It also allows taxpayers to review and correct information for improved accuracy.

8. Faceless Appeal System (NFAC)
The National Faceless Appeals Centre ensures transparent and centralized handling of income tax appeals through an automated allocation system, reducing manual intervention.

9. Electronic Verification of Returns
Taxpayers can verify their returns online using Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or digital signature, eliminating the need for physical verification.

10. Centralized Communication System
All notices, updates, queries, and assessment orders are available directly on the portal, ensuring seamless communication with the Income Tax Department without offline visits.

11. Pre-Validated Bank Account for Refunds
Taxpayers must pre-validate their bank account to receive income tax refunds directly. Once processed, refunds are securely credited to the registered bank account linked with PAN.

New Income Tax Portal Login and Registration Guide Explained

Registered taxpayers can easily log in to the new Income Tax e-Filing Portal using their PAN as the user ID along with their password.

For new users who are not yet registered, the portal offers a simple and quick registration process. Taxpayers need to provide basic details such as PAN, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID to create their account.

Once the registration is complete, users can access all online tax services, including filing income tax returns (ITR), checking refund status, downloading documents, and managing their tax compliance efficiently through a single platform.

Improvements in the Income Tax e-Filing Portal 2.0 Explained

The Income Tax e-Filing Portal 2.0 introduces several key improvements over the earlier version to enhance overall performance and user experience.

The upgraded portal offers stronger security features to protect taxpayer data and ensure safe transactions. It also comes with a more user-friendly and intuitive interface, making navigation and tax filing simpler for users.
