AURIGA ACCOUNTING PRIVATE LIMITED GST Registration Update Biometric Authentication Enabled in Home State

Effective March 3, 2025, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced a major update to the GST registration process. Company promoters and directors can now complete biometric authentication at any GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) in their home state, removing the earlier requirement to visit a GSK in the state of company registration.

What’s Changing? Biometric Authentication for GST Now Available in Home States

As part of the GST registration process, new applicants must complete Aadhaar authentication—either via OTP verification or biometric authentication at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK). Previously, applicants selected for biometric authentication were required to travel to the state where their business was being registered to complete the process at a designated GSK.

Starting March 3, 2025, the GST Network (GSTN) has simplified this requirement. Applicants can now complete their biometric authentication at any GSK in their home state, regardless of where the business is being registered.

Example: If a company is registering in Delhi but the applicant resides in Tamil Nadu, they no longer need to travel to Delhi. The biometric process can now be completed at a GSK in Tamil Nadu, eliminating the need for interstate travel

Eligibility for Home‑State Biometric Authentication

The new facility is open to every individual listed under the Promoter / Partner tab in Form REG‑01 for these business structures:

  • Public Limited Company

  • Private Limited Company

  • Unlimited Company

  • Foreign Company

Promoters and directors of the above entities may choose any GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) located in the state shown as their “home state” in the application to complete biometric authentication.

How the Home‑State GSK Option Works

Stage

What Happens

1. Selection & Notification

• If the application is flagged for biometric authentication, GSTN sends an email explaining the next steps.

• Follow the link in that email to pick a GSK in your home state.

Choose carefully: once selected, the GSK cannot be changed.

2. Coverage

• The option is live in 33 States/UTs; Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Sikkim will join soon.

• Applicants from all other states can already select a home‑state GSK.

3. Booking Your Slot

• After you confirm the GSK, GSTN emails you a fresh link to book a time slot.

• Book any available slot that suits you.

4. Completing Authentication

• Visit the chosen GSK; staff will capture your photo and biometrics.

• If you have already completed biometric authentication once, you do not have to repeat it.

Special Note for the Primary Authorized Signatory (PAS)
  • If a Promoter/Director is also the PAS, they must still appear at the jurisdictional GSK for document verification; the home‑state GSK option does not apply in that circumstance.

  • Best practice: the Promoter/Director should finish biometric authentication first, followed by the PAS’s visit for document checks.

Optional, Not Mandatory

Choosing a home‑state GSK is a convenience, not a requirement. Promoters and directors may still use the jurisdictional GSK in the state of registration if they prefer.

Key Takeaways for Taxpayers

  • No More Long-Distance Travel
Biometric authentication can now be completed at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) in your home state, reducing time and travel expenses.

  • Who Is Eligible?
This facility is available to Promoters and Directors of Private Limited, Public Limited, Unlimited, and Foreign Companies.

  • Not Everyone Requires It
Only applicants selected for biometric authentication will be notified via email with further instructions.

  • One-Time Selection
Once you choose a Home-State GSK, the selection cannot be changed, so make your choice carefully.

  • Same Process, New Convenience
Photo capture and biometric verification still happen at a GSK—but now one that’s closer to home.

  • Important for PAS
If the Promoter/Director is also the Primary Authorized Signatory (PAS), they must still visit the jurisdictional GSK for document verification.

  • It’s Optional
Choosing a Home-State GSK is a convenience, not a requirement. You can still opt to visit the jurisdictional GSK if you prefer.
